„Grinding Burn and its Testing”now avaible in german and english language

When grinding steel parts, the surface of the part can „burn“ if too much heat is introduced in a short time. This danger exists above all in grinding processes, which for cost reasons must be made increasingly efficient. In recent years, therefore, grinding burn has received intensified attention from manufacturers and users of ground components in the automotive, aerospace, and mechanical engineering industries. This book covers everything you need to know about grinding burn:

Understanding of the basic mechanisms of grinding burn formation in order to estimate the grinding burn risk of specific steels and components. Test methods for detecting grinding burn to prevent premature component failure. Grinding burn tests after optimizing grinding technology or starting new batches, and after changing or dressing grinding wheels The book is a completely practical guide even for non-material scientists. This is additionally supported by a glossary of technical terms.

In May 2020, Hanser-Verlag Munich published the book “Schleifbrand und dessen Prüfung”. This book incorporates the experience and results gained by imq Ingenieurbetrieb in the field of grinding burn testing. Pictorial material was provided by various companies such as Grindaix GmbH, ibg Prüfcomputer GmbH, IZFP Saarbrücken, Rohmann GmbH, QASS GmbH and Stresstech GmbH. The professors Wilfried Saxler/ RFH University of Applied Sciences Cologne and Bernhardt Karpuschewski/ University of Bremen supported and promoted the project in many ways.

Immediately after the publication of the book, we were asked whether an English-language version was available. This inspired the authors to produce this English-language edition of the book.      It largely corresponds to the German-language version. Only some minor inaccuracies present in that version have been eliminated. Furthermore, in chapter 4.3.2.2, which deals with eddy  current testing, new application possibilities made possible using artificial intelligence (AI) have been added.
This also required a revision of the summary in Chapter 5.

The authors hope that this book will meet with the interest and are already looking forward to receiving comments and suggestions by the readers. These you can send to us via grindingburn@imq-gmbh.com.  The book may be ordered by imq GmbH at vertrieb@imq-gmbh.com

  2. imq-Ingenieurbetrieb organizes exchange of experience “Methods and tools for grinding burn testing”

Comments Off on imq-Ingenieurbetrieb organizes exchange of experience “Methods and tools for grinding burn testing”

Since 2010, imq has been working on technologies for the reliable detection and assessment of grinding burns. We are in permanent exchange with experts from production, quality assurance and science. The experience exchange has taken place on 05./06.February 2019 at imq in Crimmitschau. The participants from well – known German and Swiss companies rated this meeting as an outstanding opportunity to discuss their experience in the field of grinding burn testing. A further exchange of experience is projected in 2020.

  3. Accreditation extended on Standard for Grinding Burn Detection ISO 14 104

Comments Off on Accreditation extended on Standard for Grinding Burn Detection ISO 14 104

As a result of the supervising audit carried out in December 2016 the Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) confirmed, that the imq- laboratories fulfil all expectations of the standard for grinding burn detection by surface temper etching/nital etching ISO 14014. These accreditation concerns as well the technical equipment and the qualification of the operators. Up to now imq is the only laboratory in the range of authority of the DAkkS accredited on ISO 14104. imq provides surface temper etching services for our customers and organizes training courses for operators.
