To ensure the reliability of inspection procedures, reference blocks are used. These serve as reproducible reference indications for grinding burn and subsurface damage.

NITAL-ETCHING ACCORDING TO ISO 14 104 OR AMS 2649
The effect of nital-etching depends on various factors. The condition of the etch bath is highly decisive. By our experience it is not sufficient to check this referring to its cleanliness, contamination and pH level only. For this reason ISO 14 104 as well as AMS 2649 stipulate a regular undisclosed employment of reference blocks during the running testing process which allow an assessment of the etch bath’s efficacy.
For this purpose imq has developed specific reference blocks which realize highly reliable performance. Due to this, etch baths do not need to be replaced according to course of time but exactly then when they have become ineffective indeed.
Reference blocks for NDT
- Production of artificial defects on customer components
- Degree od famage adapted to the component requirements
- Component geometry flexible, produstion also possible on curved surfaces an in cavities
NE Test Set – reference blocks for monitoring surface temper etching
- Application according to standards: Ist 14 1014 and AMS 2649
- Available in various material variants, through-hardended and case-hardened
- Cost-savings potnetial by avoiding unnecessary etching bath exchanges
- Monitoring even for automated etching equipment
